A work of fiction based on real facts

After sharp criticism of the series, "Netflix" adds an alert to "The Crown 5"

The series depicts Diana as a lonely fiancée and then as a sad bride.

About "Netflix"

Netflix added at the bottom of the promotional clip for its series "The Crown", which deals with the life of the late Queen Elizabeth II, and achieved widespread public success, a phrase explaining that it is a "fictional" work based on real facts, after sharp criticism from British personalities.

And the sentence “This narrative drama, based on real facts, tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II, and the political and personal events that marked her reign,” is found at the bottom of the series’ trailer on YouTube and the Netflix website.

The platform has so far refrained from responding to requests to add this alert, but criticism of the series escalated with the approaching launch of the fifth season on the ninth of next November.

Former British Prime Minister John Major described the series as a "barrel of bullshit", after British media reported that the fifth season showed Charles trying to unseat the Queen in the 1990s, and his pressure on Major to push his mother to abdicate.

Actress Judi Dench, who played Queen Victoria in the series, also criticized him, describing him as a "cruelly unjust" to the royal family.

The Oscar-winning actress, who is close to King Charles and his wife, told "Netflix" that she "blurred the lines between historical accuracy and crude excitement," fearing that "a large number of viewers" would believe that the series expresses the historical truth.

In the Daily Telegraph, the Queen Mother biographer, William Shawcross, described the series as "hateful" and "full of lies and half-truths".

The new season of "The Crown", which is considered one of the biggest successes of "Netflix", will be shown in conjunction with the beginnings of the reign of Charles (73 years) after the death of his mother Elizabeth II last month, and will be crowned on May 6 in London.

And the fourth season has previously been accused of bias in its handling of Charles and Princess Diana's relationship, and this season it touches on the accession of "Lady Di" to the British royal family, played by Emma Corinne.

The series depicts Diana as a lonely fiancée, then as a sad young bride living with a cold and unfaithful husband, who was still nostalgic for his love for Camilla when he was young.

However, the series' producers have always denied these accusations, stressing that the series "has always been defined as a novel based on historical events."
